Ellinbank’s solar system has 248 solar panels (PV or photovoltaic panels) of 400 W per panel, for a total capacity of 99.2kW and with a 110kW solar inverter. The solar panels are on the roof of a farm building that is structurally certified to support the load of the panels.

The solar energy is used directly on the farm, as well as stored in a 100kWh lithium-ion battery.

This chart shows the total amount of solar energy produced each day, for the most recent 30-31 days.

The blue bars display the daily amount against the scale measure on the right. The taller bars or greater amounts of energy produced occur on the days when there is more sunlight. Lower levels of solar energy are typical when the weather is overcast.

This chart shows the total amount of solar energy produced each month, starting from June 2021.

As we progress through the seasons, we expect to see significantly more solar energy produced in the summer compared to winter. Sunny weather and longer daylight hours will result in greater solar energy production.

On 18 September 2021, the solar energy and battery system shut down as the site power was turned off for the installation of a horizontal wind turbine. The system was supposed to restart when the power was switched back on, but did not, so the suppliers were called. The battery was inspected by the company’s local technician but remains unsolved and not working at 26 October 2021. We are waiting on the supplier to send an expert from interstate.

The solar energy system was found to have a faulty relay which was replaced, allowing the solar panels to work again. The performance of the solar panels can be seen on the daily and monthly solar production charts.
